Is Rtv Good For Speaker Repair

  1. I accept a thread on this speaker (a very old 1000&Thou Double Bottom End) but the question got buried in there so I'll ask it here. I've done a fair amount of refoaming but never with a plastic cone driver. Does the white glue similar Aleen's or the Parts Express surround glue stick to poly cones? If not, what else would yous recommend? The surround is standard cream.

  2. Aleens volition not piece of work very adept on poly cones. I use the black stuff meant for poly. I really utilise it for everything because its much stronger that Aleens imo.

    It is like to this:

    Kind of smells like acetone.

  3. Aye, white glue won't stick .
  4. I got a large one-time tube of black automotive adhesive and sealant (aka RTV) that smells like acetone. Call back it would work? I don't want my surround to dissolve in the gum...
  5. To the op, this is what you need to use. Coming from personal feel an provided past Midwest speaker ( which I highly recommend btw) worked perfect an holds strong with a clean wait. Just finished refoaming a pair of 10" infinity poly's on a pair of Rsa's

If this were purchased from a hardware store what would y'all ask for, blackness rubber cement or is at that place a more specific name?
  7. I used Aleene's on my RS-5b, it worked fine, it may not adhere to the poly well merely it adheres to the thin layer of old mucilage just fine...
  8. As well on poly cones, be certain to utilise acetone (nail smooth remover) to thoroughly clean off any and all existing old glue from the cones and basket rim. Works like a amuse .
  9. Exercise not employ RTV silicone or hardware store stuff.

Parts Express or Midwest besides sells the black speaker glue.

  10. A small-scale tube of auto trim agglutinative also works well.
  11. We seem to have equal votes for 'must utilise stuff designed for speakers' and 'auto trim agglutinative/RTV works well'. If anyone knows how or why there is a key difference in these two products, I'd similar to acquire more nearly information technology. It's not that I want to cheap out, merely the RTV is here and the other stuff is not. And I'thousand a pharmacist.
  12. I'chiliad guessing that anything that adheres to both surfaces without damaging either tin can be made to work, I was just sharing my experiences as a data indicate...
  13. I'k more worried nigh the foam than the cone. I think I have a scrap surround I had to cut once, I might try the RTV on it.

  14. Simply my .02 simply if information technology's worth doing, information technology'southward worth doing right. Get the proper mucilage. The rtv silicone is just that, yes it's neat for inexpensive quick repairs such as a hole or tear. But for a complete refoam process I would stick to the actual glue. The rtv can get very messy an information technology is very flexible. With a steady manus and an one/8 " line of gum all the way around looks ten times better an cleaner. Not to mention if you always accept to take the rtv silicone off its gonna be a PITA.
  15. The blackness speaker gum is much less viscous than silicon RTV.
  16. Is that ''black speaker glue'' annihilation like the Moyen JBL adhesive?. If yes, that's great stuff!.
  17. I guess the but way to feel the black speaker glue is to purchase a bottle and discover out. Also bad PE's shipping will be as much equally the glue, but that'southward a different meeting.

I truly appreciate all the assist and advice. AK makes it possible to restore almost anything audio and do information technology well.
